Rename a photo series with numbered filenames

Consistent names make organising and client communication easier. Choose a prefix, starting number and number of counter digits. The table previews new names before download. Every original keeps its extension and contents, even when several source files share a name.

Example: with the prefix wedding-claire and a three-digit counter, DSC_4852.JPG becomes wedding-claire-001.JPG. The next file receives number 002.

How to use this tool

  1. Add photos in the order you want.
  2. Choose a prefix, starting number and counter length.
  3. Review the filename mapping and download the renamed files.

Frequently asked questions

Are photos recompressed?

No. Downloaded files preserve the original binary contents. Only the name in the download or ZIP changes.

Are GPS metadata preserved?

Yes. To remove them, use the metadata cleaner on copies intended for sharing.

What if two photos have the same name?

The counter assigns a distinct name to each file. It continues beyond the minimum digit length without resetting to zero.
