How large can you print a photo?

Print resolution depends on available pixels and physical size. This tool calculates dpi after the crop needed to fill your chosen format. It shows removed areas and common print sizes. The rating remains an estimate: it does not detect focus blur or noise.

Example: a 3000 × 2000 pixel photo gives about 254 dpi at 30 × 20 cm. At 60 × 40 cm it provides about 127 dpi.

How to use this tool

  1. Add a photo and select its thumbnail.
  2. Enter print width and height in centimetres.
  3. Compare formats and check framing before ordering a print.

Frequently asked questions

Do I always need 300 dpi?

300 dpi is a common reference for close viewing. Lower resolution may suit a large print viewed from further away. Here, excellent means at least 240 dpi and good means at least 150 dpi.

Why does the rating change with the shape?

A square may remove part of a rectangular photo. The calculation uses the retained pixels rather than just the original dimensions.

Does the result guarantee sharpness?

No. A large image can still be blurry. Check sharpness, colours and your print provider’s requirements as well.
