Prepare a client photo selection: comparison, contact sheet and watermark

A practical workflow to review a shoot, provide clear references and send a selection that is easy to discuss.

A client selection should be easy to browse and make each image unambiguous. Keep the original series and work on a focused shortlist. A PDF acts as a reference document; an online gallery then makes viewing and discussion easier.

Give every image a clear reference

Start with a contact sheet. Enable filenames and continuous numbering, and add a recognizable shoot title. A grid of 20 images per page is easy to browse. Checkboxes help clients who prefer selecting on paper. Make sure visible filenames let you find originals in your archive.

With 47 images, a 4 × 5 grid creates three pages. Ask the client to cite both the number and filename to avoid confusion after a new export.

Prepare signed copies when needed

If images will circulate before final delivery, a watermark can identify your studio. Choose a readable signature and review its placement on both light and dark photos. A watermark embedded in a downloaded file cannot be removed by toggling a gallery setting, so keep originals without the signature.

Put the studio name in a corner that leaves the subject visible. Use marked copies for presentation and retain unmarked files for the agreed delivery.

Choose between similar shots

Nearly identical portraits can differ in eye sharpness or expression. Compare them side by side at the same zoom. For judging an edit, try the before/after overlay instead. Views share display settings, but subjects are not automatically aligned.

Compare at the same magnification, check eyes, hands and high-contrast areas, then remove the duplicate from the presentation selection.

Share your final selection

Export a reference PDF and create an express album for the shortlisted photos. Send the link with one clear instruction: specify selected filenames. If you replace or reorder images later, send an updated contact sheet as well.
